Seasonal Magic: Diary of a Village Witch
By Paddy Slade
Capall Bann Publishing, 1997
ISBN 1 86163 0190
This book is by the genuine thing: a real village witch. Paddy Slade and this book shows that real village witchcraft never disappeared in England and does so in a comprehensive way. My great grandmother was such a person but not all of her practice came down to me. Paddy’s book fills in some of the gaps that my mother and grandmother had missed and of course adds other bits that were not in my family tradition.
The book wanders through the year, putting many practices into their appropriate seasonal basis and in doing so provides spells, myths and linkages in an enjoyable and flowing well.
For those with an interest in family magical traditions and especially English forms, this is a great book that rewards careful study. Buy it.
